This research project explores the theology of application in biblical preaching and the various approaches and philosophies surrounding biblical application in expository messages. Chapter 1 introduces the project's rationale and provides an overview of the project. Chapter 2 develops a biblical theology of application in preaching. The prophet Isaiah provides insight into the power of biblical application. The epistle of 1 John is investigated with regards to the purpose of biblical application. Finally, the pattern of biblical application is seen in Paul's instruction to Timothy. Chapter 3 presents four principles inherent to making faithful biblical application. Chapter 4 details the conducting of the project. Chapter 5 evaluates the project, concluding that even with a sound theology and a faithful approach to application, effective application is also largely dependent on the community of faith, the local church.en_US
