This dissertation examined the perceptions of leadership in the local church and the relational factors necessary for team building. This analysis included the measurement of perceived relational qualities and environmental factors that are necessary for effective team ministry. The research concern addressed the fact that pastors' and staff members' perceptions of necessary factors effective for team ministry may be different. This gives reason for the development of the research questions, and gives information related to the current trends concerning team ministry in the local church. The study then provided an analysis of the available literature and previous research. Prior research has shown many benefits to the shared responsibility model of ministry in the local church. This research outlined some of the key contributors in the field of team ministry. It also described the essential details of team building, characteristics and acknowledgment of those who comprise the team. It identified the factors necessary for effective team ministry and some qualities that can help ensure the team's probability of success. This study presented the methodology in which the analysis of perceived relational qualities and environmental factors were measured. This methodology included the survey instrument, the proposed means to implement the process of gathering the data. The survey consists of 7 positional questions, followed by a 59 question survey and one write-in question. It was found that the population agreed with the precedent literature according to the returned survey instruments. The population agreed that the stated environmental factors and relational qualities were essential for effective team ministry. The examination of the respondents results of the survey revealed that pastors and staff members do agree on the perceptions of the necessity of both environmental factors and relational qualities. However, the ranking of these factors reveal that pastors and staff members see a difference in what they perceive are the most significant to build an effective ministry team. This study then provided a summation of the research as well as suggestions for further research. The implications and application of this research were presented by how it is related to the perceptions of leadership in the local church and the relational factors necessary for effective team ministry.en_US
